Some destinations ask you to choose: relaxation or adventure, culture or nightlife, luxury or authenticity.

Los Cabos lets you experience a little of everything.

Located at the southern tip of Mexico’s Baja California Peninsula, Los Cabos stretches between two distinctly different destinations: the energetic resort city of Cabo San Lucas and the quieter, historic streets of San José del Cabo.

Between them, the Tourist Corridor follows a dramatic coastline where rugged desert terrain meets the deep blue waters of the Sea of Cortez. Luxury resorts seemingly emerge from the desert, mountains frame the horizon, and one spectacular ocean view seems to lead to another.

But what stayed with me most wasn’t simply the scenery. It was how easily we could change the entire feeling of our day just by changing where we spent it.

First Impressions

Los Cabos has contrasts everywhere.

The landscape itself is a study in opposites—dry, rugged desert against brilliant blue water; towering cacti against manicured resort grounds; quiet stretches of coastline not far from bustling restaurants and nightlife.

The same contrast exists between its two primary cities.

Cabo San Lucas delivers energy. Its marina, restaurants, nightlife, beach clubs, and constant activity make it the livelier side of Los Cabos.

San José del Cabo feels different almost immediately. Its historic center, art galleries, local boutiques, restaurants, and slower pace invite you to linger rather than rush to the next activity.

We enjoyed both, but I found myself especially drawn to the laid-back charm of San José del Cabo.

And that’s part of what makes Los Cabos so interesting: you don’t necessarily have to choose.

✨ Superb

Our stay at Hilton Grand Vacations Club La Pacifica Los Cabos delivered exactly what I want from a resort stay: beautiful surroundings, room to unwind, and amenities that made taking care of ourselves feel effortless rather than obligatory.

The beachfront setting is gorgeous, with expansive ocean views and beautiful pools that make it very easy to settle in and stay awhile.

But one of our favorite amenities was somewhere I didn’t necessarily expect to find a vacation highlight—the gym.

It remains one of the best hotel fitness centers we’ve experienced. It was spacious, exceptionally well equipped, and introduced us to manual treadmills that we enjoyed so much they inspired us to recreate part of the experience at home.

That’s my definition of a Superb travel experience.

Luxury isn’t always about extravagance. Sometimes it’s exceptional service, thoughtful amenities, beautiful surroundings, and having everything you need to feel good without leaving the property.

One important note about the gorgeous coastline: beautiful does not always mean swimmable. Some Los Cabos beaches experience powerful waves, undertows, and changing currents. Pay attention to posted beach flags and local guidance before entering the water, even when conditions appear calm from shore.

🌅 Sublime

For me, some of the most memorable moments in Los Cabos came from experiencing its quieter side.

San José del Cabo offered exactly that.

Walking through its historic center revealed another personality altogether. Colorful architecture, local boutiques, galleries, restaurants, and the city’s vibrant art district created an atmosphere that felt relaxed, creative, and grounded in place.

There was no need to rush.

You could wander. Stop for a meal. Browse a gallery. Sit outside and watch people pass. Discover something simply because you happened to turn down a particular street.

It’s a different kind of luxury—the luxury of having enough time to notice where you are.

And beyond the towns themselves, Los Cabos continually reminds you that nature is still setting the stage. Desert terrain stretches toward the coastline, mountains rise in the distance, and the changing light transforms the landscape throughout the day.

Sometimes the most sublime travel moments aren’t activities at all.

They’re the moments when you stop doing and simply take it all in.

🌌 Surreal

Then there’s the landscape that has become synonymous with Cabo.

At the very tip of the Baja California Peninsula, enormous granite formations rise dramatically from the water around Land’s End. Among them is El Arco, Cabo’s iconic natural arch.

Seeing these formations from the water offers a completely different perspective on Los Cabos. The scale becomes more apparent as the coastline gives way to massive rock formations, secluded beaches, and open water.

It’s also here, at the southern end of the peninsula, that the geography of Cabo becomes particularly fascinating. The Pacific Ocean lies to one side of the peninsula and the Gulf of California—better known as the Sea of Cortez—to the other.

And during whale season, the experience becomes even more extraordinary.

Each winter, humpback whales migrate to the warmer waters around Baja California Sur. Seeing one breach against the backdrop of Cabo’s dramatic coastline is the kind of moment that can instantly make everything else around you feel very small.

That’s Surreal.

Not simply beautiful. Not simply impressive.

A moment that makes you stop and wonder whether what you’re seeing is actually real.

Two Sides of Los Cabos

If there’s one thing I’d want someone visiting for the first time to understand, it’s that Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo aren’t interchangeable.

Cabo San Lucas brings the energy—marina life, nightlife, restaurants, excursions, beach clubs, and plenty of activity.

San José del Cabo offers a slower rhythm—historic streets, galleries, boutiques, dining, culture, and evenings made for wandering.

You may strongly prefer one over the other.

We did.

But experiencing both gives you a much richer understanding of Los Cabos than staying exclusively within the boundaries of your resort.

My Live To Travel Takeaway

Los Cabos reminded me that a restorative trip doesn’t have to mean doing nothing.

Sometimes wellness is a morning workout overlooking paradise. Sometimes it’s an afternoon beside the pool. Sometimes it’s wandering through an art district without an agenda. And sometimes it’s heading out on the water to experience something you’ve never seen before.

What makes Los Cabos special is the ability to move between those experiences.

You can embrace the energy of Cabo San Lucas, slow down among the galleries and historic streets of San José del Cabo, retreat to a beautiful resort, or venture into a landscape where desert, mountains, and sea converge.

You get to decide what restoration looks like.

If you’re drawn to destinations that offer striking natural beauty, contrasting experiences, and the freedom to shift between activity and stillness, Los Cabos gives you plenty of ways to make the experience your own.
